BAREILLY: Months after getting his father arrested for "murdering his sister," a 19-year-old man "died by suicide" in his home in Bareilly after failing to secure his father's bail, police said.
Ramesh Kumar, 47, has been behind bars since Aug 8 after his son, Vishal Kumar, filed a case accusing him of killing his elder daughter over suspicions of an illicit relationship.
After Ramesh's arrest, Vishal visited him in jail, where he expressed regret and urged his son to secure his bail so he could return home and take care of the family, said Vishal's uncle, Dataram.
On Tuesday, police found Vishal hanging from the ceiling of his home in Gokulpur Gurghaiya village, CB Ganj, with no food or money in the house. He had been working as a labourer to make ends meet since his father's arrest. His mother died eight years ago, while his younger brother lives with relatives in Delhi.
He was last seen entering his home around 4pm on Monday, and neighbours alerted police after he failed to come out by Tuesday morning. CB Ganj SHO Suresh Chandra Gautam said, "When we entered the house after forcing the door open, we found the deceased hanging from the ceiling. The body has been sent for a post-mortem exam."
Sub-inspector Saurabh Yadav added, "Investigations reveal that Vishal had been trying to arrange bail for his father but was unsuccessful. Some relatives had assured him of help, but it did not materialise." He said Vishal "had been suffering from depression" due to his worsening financial condition.
Dataram also told police that his nephew had been "feeling lonely and distressed" since his sister's death. "He had stopped interacting with people and was deeply troubled," he added.
